Board approves renewal with Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool despite small rate increase

Elko County commissioners approved the county's renewal with the Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool during their June meeting after representatives described the driver of a modest increase in the county's renewal premium.

Dane Iriardi, LP Insurance, the county's agent of record through the pool, told the board the increase was linked to higher exposures — payroll, total insured values, number of autos and emergency services operations — and said the pool offers steady, member‑owned pricing compared with private‑market volatility. "The main drivers of your increase are, your exposures, your payroll, your total insured values, number of autos, and number of employees all increased," Iriardi said.

Alan Pulp, identified in the presentation as the PoolPact chief financial officer, described the pool's budget structure and services for members, saying about 77% of the budget pays claims and loss funds and administrative costs run about 5.1% of total budget. Commissioners asked about coverage layers, flood and earthquake limits and member deductibles; Pulp outlined the captive/reinsurance layers and the role of syndicates for excess coverage.

Chair John Carr disclosed during the discussion that Iriardi is his insurance agent; Carr said the disclosure should be on the record but that it did not affect his vote. After a motion, the board approved the renewal proposal on a voice vote.
