Officials probe repeated failures at Fire Tower Road water tank; surge suppressor and repairs underway

County Manager Thomas Weaver told the commission Sept. 2 that the Fire Tower Road water tank 'went out again' and that the county called Hammock Wells after the regular contractor was unavailable. The company responded promptly and provided on‑site service within an hour. Weaver said staff suspect an electrical issue affecting the tank and that if electrical fixes do not resolve the problem they will evaluate cooling for electronics or hire an electrical contractor.
Weaver told commissioners the county is awaiting a surge suppression system being produced in Texas, and staff expect delivery in about 20 days; they also are investigating whether a ground field that has settled might be contributing to the recurring failures. Commissioners discussed whether the tank uses a turbine well; Weaver said they believe it is a turbine well.
