Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital gets certificate for behavioral health unit; hospital outlines $7.5M in projects

Steve Simpson, hospital administrator for Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital, told the board the state has approved the hospital’s behavioral health unit and issued a certificate of occupancy. “I literally at 03:51 just got a letter from the state that has approved all things. And so now we have a certificate of occupancy,” Simpson said, while cautioning that staffing the unit will take additional time before the hospital begins admitting patients there.
Simpson outlined recent and planned capital spending: the hospital contributed “just under $4,000,000” in capital improvements last year and has approval for an additional $3,500,000 this year for major projects including x-ray and MRI upgrades, a facelift for the labor and delivery area and eventual resurfacing of the parking lot. He also reviewed the hospital’s infection-control preparations for measles, saying there were “no confirmed cases in the state of Nevada at this time” but that staff have distributed screening tools and supplies to local clinics and coordinated a statewide exercise with the Nevada Hospital Association.
