Commission reappoints RVRC member, declares two properties surplus and plans event-center clearing

At its Oct. 7 meeting the commission approved the reappointment of Rob Marion to the River Valley Regional Commission for a term from Oct. 7, 2025 to Oct. 7, 2027. The resolution appointing Marion was adopted by unanimous vote.
The board also declared two county-owned buildings—one on King Street and the old fire station on Fire Tower Road—surplus and authorized demolition. The minutes indicate the county will attempt to preserve the existing slab at the old fire station so a new structure could be built on the footprint in the future.
At the Oct. 27 work session Chairman Coffey said the commission would move forward with logging and surveying behind the recreation center to clear land for a proposed event center, and that funding sources for that work would include SPLOST, TSPLOST and hotel/motel funds.
