The commission debated a proposal to change the Planning & Zoning Board from seven members to five during its Aug. 5 meeting. Commissioner Jason Frost supported the reduction; Commissioners Timothy Biddle and Damon Hoyte opposed the change. Chairman Charles Coffey cast the tie‑breaking vote in favor of the five‑member board.
County Attorney Bin Minter advised that a long‑term solution would be to amend the zoning ordinance but that a short‑term fix could be a resolution recorded in the minutes. The motion approved by the commission directs that as current terms expire or members resign the board will not be refilled until the membership reaches five.
An audience member, Latrese Brown, said she had applied and would be willing to serve as a seventh member; commissioners thanked her but proceeded with the change. The commission recorded the outcome and directed staff to maintain applications on file and to bring ordinance changes forward if needed.
