Commission awards Friendship Road resurfacing contract to Oxford Construction for $358,750

The commission voted Aug. 5 to award the Friendship Road resurfacing contract to Oxford Construction after SOWEGA Engineering opened and reviewed bids on July 22. The SOWEGA recommendation and bid tabulation were presented to the board; Oxford's low bid was $358,750 and Robinson Paving's bid was $389,118.85.
J. Paul Rakel Jr., P.E., of SOWEGA Engineering summarized the procurement and certified the bid record. The commission recorded a unanimous vote to accept Oxford's bid after Commissioner Hoyte moved the award and Commissioner Biddle seconded the motion.
County Public Works Director Tom Bickel and County Manager Thomas Weaver were in attendance; Weaver said staff will proceed with contract execution and scheduling. The SOWEGA letter and attached tabulation were entered into the meeting record to document the solicitation and recommendation.
The bid tabulation and award are intended to be financed through LMIG funding as presented in the materials attached to the meeting minutes; no contract start date was recorded in the minutes and staff will return with a construction schedule and authorization paperwork.
