Board approves extension of behavioral-health workforce grant to County Office of Education

Board members approved an extension of a previously authorized behavioral-health workforce grant, which staff said is a pass-through with the County Office of Education as lead agency. Mark Taylor, associate superintendent, said the grant will fund universal screeners and wellness coaches to identify student needs and create career pathways into behavioral-health work.
"We're looking at universal screeners... we're looking at hiring wellness coaches," Taylor said, describing the activities the grant will support. County staff emphasized the grant's focus on workforce development and noted it had been approved by the board several months earlier; the current item extended the grant term. The motion to approve the item was made and seconded during the consent agenda and recorded as carried by the board members present.
No dissent or public testimony opposed the grant extension at the meeting. Staff said the program is intended to develop local capacity to serve behavioral-health needs by training and creating career pathways for students interested in those roles.
