Airports staff outline capital projects; Board approves FAA grant and Knife River contract

Mike Crisafulli, Airports Manager, provided a department update on capital projects and operations at Grants Pass and Illinois Valley Airports. He said preconstruction work for the Taxiway Alpha Extension would take about one to one-and-one-half months for submittals and testing and that construction was expected to begin near the end of August with a 50-day contract period. Crisafulli also reported the Illinois Valley Airport fuel farm project is approximately $566,000 and funded through a State grant under House Bill 5202, with fuel-tank delivery anticipated in October or November.
Crisafulli presented FAA Grant Agreement No. 3S8-NMG-3-41-023-021-2026 providing approximately $2,759,417 toward $2.904 million in eligible project costs; the Oregon Department of Aviation will provide about 91% of the local share leaving Josephine County responsible for about $15,000. He then presented a construction contract with LTM, Inc. dba Knife River Materials in the amount of $1,694,008 for the Taxiway Alpha Extension; Knife River was the lowest responsive bidder (next-lowest ~ $2.8 million). Commissioners approved the FAA grant and authorized Crisafulli to sign and approved the Knife River contract; both motions carried 3-0.
