Fire chief reports 49 calls in July; new engine delivery expected early 2027

Fire Chief Brian Williams reported that for July 2026 the fire department responded to a total of 49 calls: 1 structure fire, 8 miscellaneous fires, 14 public service calls, 2 rescues, 1 hazmat-related call, 10 false alarms and 13 fire alarms.
Chief Williams said a P.I.L. evaluator will be at the department on Sept. 14 to evaluate the city's fire rating. He also reported the department has received a small F-250 pickup that is being upfitted and that paperwork for a new fire engine has been submitted, with expected delivery in "February or March 2027." He thanked the council for budget approval, noting the impact on department resources, and updated the council on progress installing Knox boxes at businesses.
