Water superintendent reports commercial hydroseeders withdrawing lake water without backflow prevention

Water Department Superintendent Jason Bordeau told the committee that staff have observed at least three recent episodes in which commercial hydroseeder vehicles withdrew large quantities of lake water. Interactions with drivers suggested they were unaware of restrictions on such withdrawals and that some trucks lacked backflow prevention devices, the minutes say.

Committee members expressed concern about the potential for water-quality compromise and noted that continued vigilance by Water Department staff and follow-up with commercial operators are needed to ensure compliance with restrictions and to prevent contamination through improper equipment.
