Union Township board approves staff slate and summer hires for 2026'27 school year

The Union Township Board of Education on June 17 approved a batch of personnel actions to staff the district for the 2026'27 school year, including classroom teachers, nurses and summer support workers.
In a consent motion (P1'P30) the board appointed a number of certificated staff: Elizabeth Kastrud as a 5th/6th grade social studies teacher at Step 1 BA ($56,275); Morgan Reiner, kindergarten teacher at Step 6 BA ($61,275); Christina Stoffers, school nurse at Step 3 BA ($57,775); and Rebekah Lama, 8th grade math at Step 6 BA ($61,275). The board also approved additional hires and summer hourly positions, including multiple summer custodians at $18/hour and library support at $30/hour (not to exceed $3,000 per appointment).
The board accepted several resignations and retirements: resignations effective July 1, 2026 included preschool teachers Claire Rothstein and Michaela Wilcox and paraprofessional Anthony Mestre; a retirement was approved for Kelly Morey effective Jan. 1, 2027. The minutes record that some leave requests and lateral movement on the salary guide were also approved (for example, a lateral move for Lauren MacArthur effective Sept. 1, 2026). The motions were approved by roll-call vote and recorded as "Motion carried"; the minutes do not list a numerical vote tally.
