Officials warn building department could face state penalties if systems remain outdated

A staff member told the meeting that the building department is facing compliance obligations and that failure to meet them could result in state penalties. "If they don't comply, then we could be penalized from the state. Serious compliance," the staff member said, urging that updating the department's software be part of the solution.
Heidi Schmauer said vendor-managed cloud hosting includes data-protection and audit reporting that the city does not currently provide from its in-house server. "Naviline actually has that and they do give us all that information for our audit every year as well," she said, framing the vendor service as useful for compliance documentation. The board requested more detailed documentation and cost breakdowns before any final procurement decisions.
