Residents urge council to address speeding on Ives Street; mayor to raise issue with sheriff

Several residents used the council's audience comment period to press the City of Pateros for action on speeding along Ives Street. Resident Corrin Stegall said the street is being used as a cut-through after changes at Warren and Riverside, described the road as narrow and further constrained by event parking, and suggested installing speed bumps. Julie Herbert and Charlene Knopp told the council they also live on Ives Street and confirmed speeding is a problem, particularly for pedestrians.
Mayor Kelly Hook said the city is aware of enforcement and signage challenges and that he would raise the issue with the County Sheriff at a meeting scheduled for Oct. 21. Councilmember Frank Herbert said the issue would be brought to the Sheriff's office at their next meeting. No formal action or traffic-calming measure was approved at this session.
