RDA approves concept of grazing near Dutch John to reduce fire risk, contingent on approvals

Gilbert Wall requested time to propose grazing on RDA-owned land north of Dutch John, saying that grazing livestock would reduce grass height and lower wildfire risk. Commissioners and RDA members noted the RDA only has jurisdiction over RDA-owned land and that outside approvals would be required.
Commissioner Jack Lytle moved and Commissioner Randy Asay seconded to approve the concept of grazing on RDA land north of Dutch John contingent on approval by the U.S. Forest Service and the Town of Dutch John; the motion carried 3-0.
The motion approved the concept only; implementation depends on agreements with federal and municipal authorities and further RDA staff work to define grazing terms and boundaries.
