Town manager reports on masonry, windows, lift certification and new firefighter hire

Town manager Arthur briefed the Select Board on facility projects and staffing on Aug. 4, including a masonry project scheduled to be completed by November, a window-replacement plan, and a lift certification obtained after a state inspection.
Arthur said the lift inspector issued a certification valid through November and that the town is evaluating options for the lift’s call button: one vendor routes to 911 and would dispatch outside the county, so Arthur is discussing options with the town’s alarm company for a monitored panic button that would call a local alarm company or staff. Board members discussed whether non-emergency dispatch could handle lift alerts and noted the need for two-way communication.
Arthur also said staff and consultants will attend a Somersworth City Council meeting to begin conceptual talks about interconnection and a memorandum of understanding; he said the interconnection could be three to five years out, depending on grants and funding. Arthur announced that Jacob Tomlin has been appointed as a full-time firefighter/EMT effective July 21; Tomlin previously served on the call roster and lives in Rochester.
