Town staff presented an informational review on Aug. 4 of three school sites as possible polling locations for future elections and answered board questions about logistics, accessibility and cost.
Robin (S10) walked the board through advantages and trade-offs for each school: the intermediate school has the best central location, parking and floor space, while an elementary school presents challenges for parental disruptions and remote-day scheduling. Robin said setup requires a day-before move, additional labor and possible concessions from school administration; those costs are not currently budgeted and would need to be planned in the next fiscal cycle. "There's nothing in the budget this year because we would have to plan for that going into the next budget cycle," Robin told the board.
Board members asked about lift access at Town Hall, crowd-control staffing and whether additional voting machines or portable booths might be needed to speed processing. Staff noted the newly certified lift and suggested possible temporary unisex arrangements if restrooms are impacted during events; members discussed recruiting additional crowd-control volunteers and purchasing extra portable booths for future budgets. No formal vote occurred; the board asked staff to return with numbers and a timeline for consideration in the next budgeting cycle.
