On the first reading of multiple board policies, administrators reviewed proposed changes meant to align district practice with new state requirements and to tighten student-safety and privacy protections.
Key items discussed included a prohibition on imitation firearms in A200 (staff and students may not bring items resembling firearms), wellness policy updates (A275) covering training and fundraiser guidance aligned to the Department of Health, and responsible-use technology policy (A300) that adds a web link for parents seeking additional filters on student devices. Administrators said the district has already implemented many of the changes in handbooks and is now formalizing policy language.
Administrators also flagged A301 (wireless communication devices) as an update to align with a new law limiting student device access during school hours; AED/medical policy (C525) was updated for device maintenance and battery tracking after a state law revision; and H150-series changes address public-records/access requests and protections for free/reduced-price-meal privacy. The administrator said attorneys were consulted on public-records requests and that the district will deny requests that require the district to create a new list.
No policy votes were taken at this meeting; these are first readings and will return for action as needed.
