The Elko County Fire District Board approved D2 to purchase a 2023 CAT 299D3X compact track loader for $127,500 and authorized up to $55,000 for delivery and a masticator head, for a total not to exceed $182,500. The agenda said funds are available through fire district grant funds, contract revenue and reimbursable items.
Fire Chief Brian said the equipment will be used on fuels projects across the district and will increase the pace and scale of fuels treatments. "These funds are currently veil. They'll go to additional fuels projects that we have going on in the district and it'll help just increase pace and scale of how we're treating fuels around the county," he said.
A commissioner moved to approve the purchase; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote with no public comment recorded. Board members said existing operators are familiar with similar equipment and that training will allow more crew members to operate the new machine.
