Superintendent reports on fuel pump upgrades, hiring progress and state budget delay

Superintendent Kapolka updated trustees July 14 on operations, staffing and state budget developments. Kapolka said the district is replacing its fuel pumps and fuel monitoring system to allow more accurate invoicing for community partners and thanked Corinna Horton and Rick Boham for their work on the project.
Kapolka also said the district is interviewing for social work positions at BMS and CHS, a BMS science teacher, and a BMS assistant principal; the CHS assistant principal search concluded and Samantha McKee will be brought to the board for approval in August. Kapolka cautioned that the State of Michigan had not yet passed its K–12 education budget more than a month after the school year ended, a delay that affects staffing, programming and long-term planning decisions.
