Council approves state-led Route 5 repaving and ADA ramp upgrades at no cost to city

The Common Council adopted Resolution 17 granting the State authority to perform adjustments to city-owned and city-maintained facilities within NYSDOT right-of-way. A council member thanked Mayor Dobias for negotiating to get Route 5 scheduled for repaving this year.
Council members said the work will cover Route 5 from the west city line to the east city line and include reconstruction of ADA-compliant curb ramps and intersection improvements. A council member noted these upgrades will be paid through the state contract “at no expense to the city.”
The resolution passed on a roll-call vote. Council and city staff will coordinate public notice and timing with NYSDOT and prepare residents for the work.
