AP Seminar students showcase research skills in instructional highlight

The Forest Hills Board of Education heard an instructional highlight on Oct. 21 from Northern High School staff and students about the AP Seminar course.
Presenter Jennifer Kigar explained that "AP Seminar teaches students how to find and use evidence from experts, and how to present the case from their own perspective effectively, both through writing and individual and team multimedia presentations." She and Nikki Damuth, joined by three AP Seminar students, described the course's emphasis on evaluating credibility and relevance of sources and applying research skills alongside existing Honors English 10 content.
Board members were told the AP Seminar curriculum is designed to preserve core English instruction while strengthening students' ability to analyze arguments and locate current, objective sources. The presenters said the seminar supports critical thinking and practical communication skills that students will use in postsecondary education and careers.
The presentation was part of the district's instructional highlights portion of the meeting held at the Fine Arts Center.
