At its July 22, 2025 meeting, community member Laurie Williams asked the Pioneer School District board whether it and the superintendent “value the garden and plan to continue funding it,” saying volunteers and Master Gardeners had restored the site and that the garden aligns with the district’s strategic plan to support school climate and culture.
Gail Kulczyk told the board there had been “no communication about the school garden, including who is maintaining it, whether volunteers are involved, or if any harvesting has taken place over the summer,” and urged the district to ensure the garden receives regular care. Susan Cook thanked the district for changing the meeting location but said she had not yet received confirmation that a proposed path by Superintendent Jeff Davis is moving forward and requested that agenda materials be posted earlier.
The speakers provided handouts and asked the board and superintendent for clearer information on maintenance responsibility, volunteer coordination and whether funding will continue. Williams recommended restructuring the Community Garden Team to broaden community representation.
Board members did not make an immediate administrative decision during the public-comment period; minutes record the comments and indicate materials were provided to board members for follow-up.
