Commission hears annual update on community recreation programs; survey open through Aug. 30

Heather Cobb, supervisor of community recreation activities, presented the commission with an annual overview of programs and partnerships, including youth and adult sports leagues, special events and seasonal camp registrations. She said the department aims to expand public access and is collecting feedback through a community survey open through August 30.

Cobb and colleagues encouraged commissioners to publicize volunteer events and the survey to ensure broad participation.
Staff also announced upcoming community distributions (backpack giveaways on Aug. 14 and Aug. 28) and described efforts to recruit youth for workforce-development placements tied to the city's innovation and opportunity workforce law. Commissioners asked for clarity on how survey responses will be used; staff said initial results will inform design elements and that follow-up workshops are planned.
