Middle school proposes 3‑D art elective, novel swap in 8th‑grade ELA

The packet described a 12‑week 3‑D Art elective for 7th and 8th graders as an introduction to 3‑D art and sculpture, and proposed replacing The Pearl by John Steinbeck with Playing with Fire by April Henry for 8th‑grade ELA. "This proposal is to replace The Pearl by John Steinbeck with the novel Playing with Fire by April Henry," the materials state. The committee recorded that the GLMS curriculum proposals will be presented to the full Board for formal approval.
Also included was a one‑trimester General Music elective for students not enrolled in choir or band. Presenters did not record final adoption at the committee level; proposals are scheduled for formal Board consideration.
