During the manager's report, Todd summarized the town's long-running water issues and current actions to address them, saying the town has "implemented and are still in the process of a $25,000,000 water capital improvement project." He said the Virginia Department of Health issued a Notice of Violation that prompted corrective steps, and that the town is working with county partners, conducting tours and public outreach, and monitoring telemetry and field sites daily.
Todd described recent operational steps to reduce contaminant levels, including a tie-in with the PSA and work connected to a PRV project and a new tank. He stressed the town is "adamantly addressing it" and noted the water coming from the plant remains high quality with safety factors called out by the health department. He also told the council the lake at Gatewood has limited capacity and, absent rainfall, "about 80 days" of supply based on current usage and conditions. The manager said staff will continue reporting progress and coordinating with regional partners.
