Board of Pharmacy adopts modified rule text for kiosks, centralized services and records retention

The Maine Board of Pharmacy on July 2 voted to adopt modified rule text for Chapter 1 (Definitions), Chapter 20‑A (Self‑Service Customer Kiosks), Chapter 21 (Centralized Pharmacy Services) and Chapter 24 (Retention of Records by Pharmacies), and to send the package on to the Assistant Attorney General's Office for legal review.
Timothy McCormack, Esq., Public Member, moved to accept the Board staff recommended Basis Statement and Responses to Comments, accept the Small Business and Economic Impact Statement, and adopt the modified rule text as recommended; the motion was seconded by Nicholas Haar, PharmD, R.Ph., Hospital Pharmacist, and recorded as approved with Samantha Emmons, PharmD, Retail Pharmacist, and Bradley Hamilton, R.Ph., Chain Pharmacist, recorded in favor; Edward Kane, Eric Norberg and Abdifatah Ahmed were absent.
Board staff told members that the next formal step is legal review by the Assistant Attorney General, after which the rulemaking file will proceed according to state administrative procedure. The Board tabled the separate agenda item to receive a report on the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy until President Edward Kane can report.
