Mayor Halley told the Village of Greenwood Lake board that crews applied herbicide to the lake on Monday, earlier than last year, and that officials expect results within days. "We should see some some decent results, 7 to 2 weeks 7 days to 14 days, 10 days being right right smack in the middle," the mayor said, adding volunteers will resume mechanical harvesting and maintenance as the summer progresses.
Halley also recounted a recent volunteer manual-pull that removed an estimated 12,000–13,000 water chestnuts, based on counts of laundry baskets collected during the event. He said the village has scheduled a meeting with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) in late July to begin developing a long-term plan, noting that funding will be a major factor and that the village will pursue grants with a hired grant-writing firm.
