Laura presented the library's annual report at the Sept. 23 meeting, outlining income sources, staffing changes and program growth. She said the library receives funding from the City of Swisher, Johnson County, the City of Shueyville and the State of Iowa; the library hired a part‑time assistant this year and reported that programs increased from 74 in fiscal 2023 to 101 in fiscal 2024 with attendance up about 900 people.
Laura said computer station use fell (attributable to students receiving devices from the school) while wireless sessions and door counts rose; the library used an American Libraries Association grant to install an automatic front door and plans an accessibility ramp with remaining grant funds. A recent state‑funded space needs assessment found the building is too small for projected demand and recommended planning for future expansion; Laura said she prefers expanding on the existing downtown site and noted the library holds a right of first refusal on a neighboring building and lot. Council members asked questions about the utility equipment in the neighboring building and other logistical matters; no formal council action was taken that night on library facilities.
