TIE committee hears climate-action update; county to hire full-time climate action officer

At the Nov. 14 TIE committee meeting Mister Holt briefed members on the county's climate action work: 12 of 17 implementation strategies are complete, five remain (including zoning updates), and the county plans to hire a full-time climate action officer with a goal to finalize remaining strategies by April 2025.
Mister Holt, presenting for the Department of the Environment, told the TIE committee that the county has completed 12 of 17 climate-action implementation strategies and will reconvene early next year to address the five remaining items, which he described as the most difficult. "There are 5 strategies remaining. Those strategies, as I'll talk about in just a minute, are though the most difficult ones, including things like, zoning updates," he said.
Holt said the county has completed studies and pilot projects and will add a dedicated climate action officer in the office of the county executive to coordinate agencies and implementation. He said the county aims to have the remaining strategies ready by April 2025 and to review the plan annually. Vice chair Harrison and other council members pressed for greater urgency and for briefings on related topics such as stormwater resilience and how zoning changes will be integrated into the implementation work.
