Swisher council approves two-night concert permit; declines deputy reserves for the shows

The council approved an event permit for a two-night concert set for Nov. 22–23 and discussed street closure logistics, ingress/egress and public-safety measures. The event organizer (S10) said crowds previously lined Main Street and asked the city to block part of the street and provide pedestrian flow control: "Basically, the line went all the way down Main Street and down all the roads," the organizer said. The council approved the permit on a motion and voice vote.
Business owners said large crowds create parking and access issues and asked the city to minimize impacts on loading and parking for downtown establishments. Council discussed but ultimately declined to staff deputy reserves for the two nights, instead encouraging organizers to use private security and offered to coordinate traffic signage through county EMS if needed. Council also noted the proposed leased lumberyard lot could be a future overflow option if it can be made safe in time.
