On July 30 the Upshur County Commission approved the Order to Approve the Number of Election Officials and Election Commissioners for the Nov. 3, 2026 General Election and approved the Number of Sets of Emergency Absentee Voting Commissioners. County Clerk Carol J. Smith characterized these items as standard procedure; both motions passed on a motion by Sam Nolte and a second by Doug Bush.
The Commission also approved a proposal to combine precincts for Election Day operations only to consolidate staffing, equipment and supply management without changing precinct boundaries or voter assignments. The approved consolidations include Buckhannon‑Upshur Middle School (Precincts 19 & 20 and Precincts 40 & 44), French Creek Grade School (Precincts 25 & 27) and Hodgesville Grade School (Precincts 38 & 39); each precinct will continue to report results individually.
