Board approves $1.87 million furniture purchase for repurposed Sixth Grade House

The Novi Community School District Board of Education on April 24 authorized a $1,872,594.93 furniture package for the facility formerly known as the Sixth Grade House, which project management presented as intended to furnish administration, the Robotics Center, Adult Education, Special Education spaces and the Japanese School of Detroit.

"It was moved by Mrs. Kliebert and supported by Mrs. Roney that the Novi Community School District Board of Education awards the purchase of the 6th Grade House furniture as presented in the total amount of $1,872,594.93 and further authorizes the Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations to expend the funds from the 2019 Bond Fund," the motion recorded in the minutes states; the vote was recorded 6–0 in favor. The purchase includes a recommended 3% contingency of $54,541.60 and will be paid from the 2019 Capital Projects Bond fund.

District staff described the package as a multi-vendor award with manufacturer and contract details included in the attached quote; administration presented the project as previously discussed at the March 20, 2025 board meeting. The board’s authorization allows the Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations to proceed with vendor payments and contract execution. The district indicated the facility will house multiple programs when repurposed; the effective program assignments were described in the building-naming materials discussed later in the meeting.
