Airport advisory committee outlines runway work, hangar development and multi-year capital plan

Dennis Carpenter and airport staff presented an extended update on county airports at the 10:15 agenda slot, saying operations and Jet-A sales at 20 Victor have increased and presenting a phased approach to extend the runway safety area and create a depressed threshold to improve takeoff performance. "It brought out more than 240 people and a $114,000 net towards a community project," Carpenter said of a recent airport event that demonstrated local support.
Staff described a two-phase plan for runway improvements using county equipment for initial earthwork and noted phase 2 would require consultants and FAA specifications. At Granby, staff and the advisory committee described stalled hangar construction tied to grade differentials and fill needs (an estimated 3,500 cubic yards of fill in one area), FAA height approvals and a recently completed cultural survey needed for environmental review. Josh Schroeder (airports) gave a capital plan that includes pavement projects, AWOS relocation and a 10-year capital program with estimated funding needs (staff cited roughly $1.9M available for certain pavement projects at Kremling and larger 2026–27 planning/construction estimates at Granby). Commissioners asked staff to continue working with the FAA, refine cost estimates and bring final schematics and financial plans back at a future meeting.
