San Bruno Community Foundation approves $160,000 grant and $2 million endowment to fund Outdoor Education

Board Member Susan Alvaro told the Board that, per the San Bruno Community Foundation, long-term support has been approved to fund Outdoor Education for San Bruno Park School District fifth graders. The Foundation approved a $160,000 grant covering program costs for 2025–2026 and 2026–2027, and the creation of a $2 million endowment intended to generate approximately $100,000 annually beginning in 2027–2028.
Alvaro said the funds will ensure all San Bruno fifth graders can attend Outdoor Education regardless of their families’ ability to pay, and noted that this program was described by the Foundation as a transformative experience and a fitting legacy project. The Board discussed that the YMCA partnership faces infrastructure cost overruns related to staff housing, which will require further Board consideration and likely an update from the YMCA in May.
