Mayor releases proposed preliminary budget; multi‑week review and hearings set

Mayor Rebecca Erickson opened the council workshop portion of the meeting and introduced the mayor's proposed preliminary budget, thanking finance staff for preparing detailed line-item materials.
Finance director Deb (presenting) said the packet contains line-item detail and explained the timeline: the preliminary budget material was released to council in late afternoon and more narrative and line-item detail will be available during the coming weeks. "This is the mayor's proposed preliminary budget," Deb said, noting state law deadlines and that the council will review revenue actuals and proposed adjustments in the next several meetings.
Staff emphasized the preliminary nature of this release: it does not yet include baseline adjustment requests or new program requests from departments. Finance staff also said they will provide updated revenue actuals through September at the next meeting and outlined a schedule of public hearings (revenue hearings and budget hearings in November) and a final ordinance deadline in mid-December.
