Council approves $148,500 Commerce grant and playground order for Rotary Morrill Park

Mayor Rebecca Erickson and staff moved the council to authorize grant acceptance, a budget amendment and an equipment order for Rotary Morrill Park.
Jeff Osman, who presented the item, told the council the package includes four parts: the Department of Commerce grant awards, a budget amendment to move $40,000 in impact fees forward into this year, and authorization to place the playground equipment order. "We need council authorization so the mayor can sign and we can receive $148,500 to apply towards Rotary Memorial Park," Osman said. He added staff are targeting installation in early December but cautioned shipping delays could affect timing.
Council member Eckert moved to authorize the mayor to sign the grant agreements, approve the equipment order (with up to a 10% contingency) and adopt budget amendment 24-0401 for Rotary Morrill Park; Miss Crow seconded the motion. The council voted to approve the measures.
The grant funding and the reallocation of impact fees will be used to complete playground construction and equipment purchase; staff said the Rotary Club and private donors donated land and have long supported the project. Osman thanked volunteers and public works staff for helping expedite the project.
