Commissioners at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting discussed creating a strategic marketing plan to standardize how the department promotes events and programs. The department representative said there is currently no brand template and inconsistent use of logos across materials, and urged focus groups and better survey sampling to guide outreach: "There's no brand template," the department representative said.
The department representative outlined the department's core events — the road race, the concert series, Spooktacular (Oct. 31) and the family formal in February — and said staff needs a plan for sponsorships, print, and social media that fits municipal budgets. Commissioners suggested recruiting one more commissioner to join a strategic marketing subgroup and discussed using high-school worksite learning or community partners to help create materials. The commission agreed to prioritize goals and timeline work at the October meeting so the marketing plan can advance next year.
