County backs BLM grant package for river restoration projects

"I have for you today a letter of support for the Bureau of Land Management's grant application," Catherine Morris, Grand County Water Quality Manager, told the board. She described the three project locations: a half-mile of BLM land on the Fraser River upstream of Granby Ranch (the Fraser Canyon site), a roughly two-mile section of the Colorado River at Blue Valley Ranch (Confluence Recreation Area), and parcels near Kremmling referred to as the Junction Buttes sites.
Morris said the projects aim to reduce stream temperatures, address sedimentation and erosion, revegetate riparian habitat and build drought resilience. She told commissioners the total amount of funds in the grant package was not yet determined but the letter of support was due the next day; she recommended the board sign the letter to support the applications.
Commissioner discussion noted coordination with Learning by Doing partners and other regional funding applicants; commissioners moved to execute the letter of support and the motion passed.
