Historical commission’s donated Travis Letter plaque accepted for temporary placement at Leon Street Annex

Marshall Brown and Catherine Taylor, cochairs of the Coryell County Historical Commission’s Alamo Letter project, requested the county accept a donated bronze Travis Letter plaque and allow temporary installation at the Leon Street Annex (Coryell County Justice Center) while the county’s courthouse master plan is completed.
Brown said the plaque and bronze had been funded and that the plaque alone cost $5,000. The historical commission requested authorization to begin fundraising for a temporary base and to plan a dedication in February 2027. Commissioner Weddle moved to accept the donation and place the monument temporarily at the Leon Street Annex with Commissioner Matthews seconding; Commissioner Basham was designated as the point of contact for placement. The court voted to accept the donation and its temporary placement.
