The ordinance committee on Aug. 5 approved forwarding an ordinance to add a stop sign at the corner of Marcy and Armington, an intersection near Edgewood Highlands School where residents said drivers frequently speed and fail to stop.
Resident witnesses including Remy Nurse and neighborhood children described repeated speeding and unsafe conditions. "Vehicles frequently travel at high speeds... our kids... are always playing outside... It's just unsafe," Nurse told the committee. Committee members discussed minor drafting changes (striking lines 22-23 and adding line 28), accepted cosponsors and voted to approve the ordinance for consideration by the full council.
The committee approved the motion by roll call; members urged staff to coordinate with the traffic engineer on placement and any necessary sight-line or tree issues before final council action.
