Board discusses security, operating hours and signage for proposed Alfred Road dispensary

The board reviewed ordinance security standards for cultivation and dispensary operations, including requirements that cultivation occur indoors, perimeter video surveillance be installed, exterior lighting be sufficient to deter nuisance activity, and that the board may require a six-foot fence around the structure. Applicant Greg Craig described planned motion-activated lighting, multiple cameras and steel doors with most entry points locked.
Chair read the ordinance limits on operating hours: dispensing and deliveries may not occur before 7:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m. Craig said he expects to open around 9:30–10:00 a.m. and would not operate as early as 7 a.m. The board also reviewed sign rules: exterior signs must comply with the land-use ordinance, may not depict marijuana or paraphernalia, and outdoor displays intended to attract attention are prohibited; the applicant expressed interest in a leaf symbol but was told signage changes must go through other ordinance-review processes.
"Dispensing the medical marijuana products and materials shall not take place prior to 7AM or later than 8PM on any day," the Chair said when reading the rule. The board indicated compliance with these security, hours and sign standards will be conditions of approval.
