Police command staff presented the department’s notable incidents and described how their license-plate-reader system has contributed to arrest activity. A commander cited June statistics, saying the system had cleared 99 total cases by arrest through June, including 69 stolen-vehicle arrests and other felony arrests. Command staff also reported recent traffic‑related enforcement, DUI arrests and other arrests across the city.
In response to commissioners’ privacy concerns, staff said they would return with a staff report containing policy recommendations, quarterly audits and a transparency portal to show what is shared and with whom. Staff said the system keeps data for 30 days and asserted they do not share data outside California or with federal agencies under current practice; they referenced SB 34 and SB 54 in the context of state policy and data sharing. The commission asked staff to include statistics and the proposed policy changes when they return to a future meeting.
A commander also described coordination with other agencies when pursuits leave the city and noted the department's commitment to community engagement through events such as CERT training and National Night Out.
