Chairman Dom DelVecchio said the board unanimously approved a proposal from Dylan Rand, a Boy Scout from Durham, to install a retired-flag disposal bin adjacent to the troop’s bottles-and-cans collection area.
Dylan Rand told the board he researched options and located an official locked disposal bin online and “the total cost of the project would be around $250.” He said he plans to site the bin next to the bottles-and-cans bin and drill it into the concrete block; he also continues to seek an old mailbox from local post offices but has had little success so far. Board members suggested contacting the Lions Club and local legislators; Dom DelVecchio provided a contact for further assistance.
The board recorded that the scout must complete the project before his 18th birthday, ideally by the first week of September, and that he requested approval within the next week-and-a-half. On a motion by Glenn McNamara, seconded by Charlie Zieminski, the board voted to approve the installation. Motion carried unanimously.
Next steps discussed were securing the locked bin or mailbox if available, confirming exact placement with site staff, and coordinating installation details with the troop that currently manages the bottles-and-cans collection.
