Director reports seasonal maintenance wrap-up and ongoing Hearthstone Park restoration issues

Justin (staff) reported the seasonal maintenance program will end next week and multiple temporary employees are leaving. He said the town typically runs the seasonal program for about 10 weeks and that the program has been successful in providing additional maintenance capacity.
“After tonight's approvals, we only have 1 remaining capital project open that is Hearthstone Park. Still having issues with restoration,” Justin said, noting the site has struggled with patchy regrowth and poor fill in the walking-path and turf areas. He said staff and contractors have tried to address punch-list items but that the park remains below expectations for restoration.
Justin also said the town is behind schedule on the park master plan and will solidify the budget before advancing that work; he expects staff to make more progress in the coming months once the budget is set. He added staff has been coordinating on soccer-field repairs and exploring a potential lease of Mallard Cove green space to expand field capacity.
No formal council action was taken at the meeting; staff will continue restoration work, coordinate with contractors and report back to the council on progress and budget implications.
