The Calvert County Planning Commission voted to approve the 2026 Calvert County annual report and directed staff to file the report with the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) and provide a copy to the Board of County Commissioners. Long Range Planner Tay Harris presented the draft report, which compiles calendar-year 2025 planning and development data as required by Title 1-207 of the Land Use Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
Tay Harris described the report's principal data points: "There were 118 residential permits issued, 66 being inside the PFA and 52 being outside the PFA," and he summarized subdivisions, site-plan approvals and capital projects. Harris said the county has 7,265 residential-zone acres with capacity (809 inside the PFA, 6,375 outside), representing a potential for 4,861 residential units. On agricultural preservation, he reported the county has 32,807 acres preserved toward a 40,000-acre goal (about 82% of the goal) and highlighted the Calvert County Agricultural Preservation District program that has preserved 24,274 acres. Harris also reported excise-tax receipts and allocations, saying "the total excise taxes collected are $528,156" and that $2.7 million from excise taxes have been allocated in the county budget.
Commissioners had no substantive changes and a commissioner moved to approve the report as presented; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Staff will send the finalized report to MDP and copy the Board of County Commissioners. The report will enable the legislative body to consider any follow-up studies or actions identified by the planning commission.
