The Grand County Board of County Commissioners voted to accept the Open Lands, Rivers and Trails (OLRT) advisory committee's fall 2024 grant recommendations, approving a slate of open‑space, trails and wildfire prevention awards and directing staff to prepare MOUs for execution. Anna Drexler, OLRT administrator, presented proposals that the committee unanimously recommended funding, including a $200,000 recommendation to fully fund the Black Fox conservation easement (Colorado Headwaters Land Trust), multiple Headwaters Trails Alliance maintenance and grooming grants, and several Grand County Wildfire Council mitigation and NEPA‑planning grants.
"The committee scored this Black Fox conservation easement at 87.8 and recommended full funding," Anna Drexler said, noting the land trust will encumber 96 shares of the Red Top Ditch water right with the easement and intends to preserve the parcel for agricultural and open‑space use. Commissioners discussed fund balances (20‑16 and 20‑23 use categories), the need for partners on large trail projects, and approved the recommendations as presented; staff will bring back MOUs and any necessary contracts for signature.
