Hague board approves wastewater-system variance for 9673 Lakeshore with testing and engineering conditions

The Hague Town Board voted to approve a wastewater-system variance application for 9673 Lakeshore Drive (Bruce Kornkoff), attaching conditions recommended during the public hearing. Engineer Mr. Holmes detailed nine variance requests, including reductions in the required separation distances between septic components and a private well — the standard septic-tank-to-well distance is 50 feet, and the applicant proposed roughly 29 feet for the new tank where the existing tank sits about 27 feet from the well.
"The standard from the septic tank to a well is 50 feet. The existing septic tanks ... sit right around 27 feet from the well, and we are proposing the septic tank to be 29 feet away," Mr. Holmes said during the hearing. The town-designated engineer (Cedarwood) had flagged some risks tied to pump-station proximity to the lake and property lines and recommended disinfection of the well as a reasonable condition; the board accepted those recommendations as conditions of approval. The board recorded the motion, which was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Board members stressed that approval carries technical conditions intended to protect public health and lake water quality, including a 24-hour standing-water (leakage) test for repurposed tanks or certification of watertightness and adherence to the Cedarwood engineering stipulations. The resolution authorizes the applicant to proceed only after those conditions are met and documented.
