MassDOT deems BFRT Phase 2D complete; town to assume maintenance except Broadacres ramp

Marcia Rasmussen, Interim Rail Trails Coordinator for Sudbury’s Planning & Community Development, reported that MassDOT has accepted the contractor’s response to outstanding items on Bruce Freeman Rail Trail (BFRT) Phase 2D and "considers the project complete," with the exception of the access ramp at Broadacres Farm. With that exception, maintenance responsibility for the trail, including traffic signals, has been turned over to the Town.
Rasmussen said a ribbon-cutting is expected later in 2026 and that the Town submitted revisions to the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board (MAAB) addressing handicapped-access issues at Broadacres; the MAAB responded that the corrective measures appeared sufficient. The Sudbury Conservation Commission also accepted proposed revisions to the ramp design, which now involve lengthening the ramp into the parking lot and adding level areas; AA Will is preparing an estimate for that work.
