Board approves student council and YouCubed overnight trips; district to front costs

The board approved two overnight field trips during the Dec. 10 meeting: a Student Council State Conference trip to Grand Rapids from Feb. 21–23, 2026, and a YouCubed Leadership Summit at Stanford University for student Tyrese Watkins and math teacher Jill Runkle from Jan. 21–24, 2026. The motion authorized the district to front the costs for the Stanford trip with reimbursement from the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD).
Trustees voted 7–0 to approve the trips. The minutes state, "Swartz Creek Schools will front the funds and will be reimbursed by the GISD." Travel logistics, chaperones and any district payment policies were not detailed during the motion and will be handled by administration.
