Board raises superintendent salary range, delays search and agrees to candidate reimbursements

The Swartz Creek Community Schools Board voted unanimously on Dec. 10 to raise the salary range for the future superintendent to $168,000 to $200,000 and to extend the application window to Jan. 18, 2026. Carrie Germain moved the salary-range motion; subsequent votes to move the search timeframe and to reimburse travel and lodging for potential candidates (up to $1,000 per candidate, $10,000 total cap) also passed 7–0.
Board members said the changes were intended to broaden the candidate pool and reduce barriers for out-of-area applicants. The motions specified the adjusted salary range and a reimbursement policy that the district would implement if candidates incur travel or lodging expenses; the board approved a not-to-exceed cap of $10,000 for reimbursements.
